Swatches: MAC Viva Glam Nicki lipstick

Nicki Minaj as the new face of Viva Glam? Really?! Yes, the first thing I did was roll my eyes. Having purchased her first MAC lipstick, Pink Friday, and quite honestly having hated it, I assumed that the Viva Glam version would be another overdone and unwearable (at least on me) blue based light pink lipstick. Then, a few weeks ago, I heard a rumour that the color was actually a hot pink with a touch of coral - right up my alley especially with summer coming up. I figured why not check it out? Described as a "bright yellow pink" on the MAC website, the color is exactly that. I was lucky enough to get a coupon code and purchase the lipstick before it was released in stores and I thought I would give you all a look at the gorgeous summery color that MAC just came out with.

I would have liked this lipstick much more if the formula wasn't a Satin. I feel like the color doesn't apply evenly on my lips (even if I moisturize them beforehand) and it just emphasizes every little flaw in my lips. I would definitely recommend topping it off with a clear gloss to finish off the look. The pink definitely isn't a color I have in my collection, so I decided to do a few comparison swatches. The closest lippie in color that I have would definitely by Gotta Dash! Sheen Supreme by MAC. If you're into brights like the latter or even Impassioned, check it out for sure!

I would definitely suggest that you check this out in stores if you can. Due to the yellow base of the pinky coral color, this lipstick is definitely unlike any other lipstick I own. You have a year to purchase (until February 2013) so make sure you can get one... or a few... while you can, and remember - all of the proceeds go to the MAC Aids Fund.
